Belagavi Railway Londa Miraj Section Infra Updates December 2022
Belagavi Railway line updates:
The electrification of the Londa Belagavi line is well underway, with work on overhead wiring taking place at KM 582/9 Khanapur – Gunji section. This work is vital to powering the line and making it operational. Once complete, the line will be a major boon to the region, providing much needed connectivity.
The process of wiring the overhead lines is well underway. This will provide a much-needed power boost to the line and help improve services.
This section between Khanapur and Gunji is being powered up to provide electricity to a special train (secret). This will not only help in reducing the carbon footprint but also make the trains run faster and smoother.

The much-awaited doubling of the Gunji – Khanapur railway line is set to be completed by 30th November 2022. This will be a big boost to the connectivity and safety of the region. The Commissioner of Railways Safety will be conducting speed trials on the line before it is opened to the public.
This will be the first time that trains will be able to run at their full speed on this section of the line.
The line between Gunji and Khanapur was originally opened in 1874. However, due to the lack of double-tracking, trains had to slow down to a crawl as they passed through this section. This caused delays and inconvenience for passengers.
In order to alleviate this problem, the Indian government led by Shri Narendra Modi and the vision of Shri Piyush Goyal and the Late Suresh Angadi decided to double the track between Gunji and Khanapur. The project was completed in September of this year and the line is now ready for its first-speed trial.

During the speed trial, CRS will be testing the line to see if it can handle trains running at their full speed. If everything goes according to plan, this section of the line will be fully operational by the end of the year.
This is good news for passengers who have been waiting for the line to be doubled. It will also help to reduce delays and improve the efficiency of the Londa Belagavi Miraj section of Pune Bengaluru mainline.
The Londa Belagavi railway Miraj second line and electrification project, which covers a distance of 188 km and has an expenditure of Rs 3,627.47 crore with 5% escalation per annum, was approved in 2017–18 to address the congestion on this route, where both passenger and freight trains are constantly rising. Tata Group is carrying out the job.

North Karnataka’s 188 km Londa Belagavi Railway Miraj segment will shortly be electrified with 25 KW of power. Shri Atul Kumar Kanakane, principal chief electrical engineer for South Western Railway, will soon inspect the line. Mr. Atul is expected to inspect the third gate, the Goa road flyover, the electric poles on the bridge, and other crucial locations, including the electrification of the stretch’s curves. In his interactions with the trackmen on this electrified line, Atul Kumar evaluated their familiarity with the safety regulations.
Additionally, he saw to it that caution boards, warning people not to touch or get close to high-voltage lines, were available at train stations and public utility locations.
