Belgaum Dharwad New Line Gathers Momentum Amid Land Acquisition Challenges
In a significant development, the implementation of the Belgaum-Kittur-Dharwad railway track (Belgaum Dharwad New Line) has gained momentum as officials from the District Magistrate’s Office announced that land acquisition will be carried out within the boundaries of the Belagavi district. The ambitious project, which involves the construction of a new railway line via Belagavi and Dharwad through Kittur, aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation in the region.
Although the initial stages of land acquisition faced opposition from villages such as Desur and Nandihi, located in the Belgaum-Dharwad corridor, the project resumed after a brief period of administrative delay. Some farmers, concerned about the use of fertile land for the scheme, sought legal intervention by approaching the courts. As a result, progress on the project was temporarily stalled.
However, determined to move forward with this crucial infrastructure development, Members of Parliament (MP) Mangal Angadi and Iranna Kadadi, along with railway officials, have recently reaffirmed their commitment to the project. During a press conference held last week, they highlighted that land acquisition is now actively underway in Dharwad for the Belgaum Dharwad New Line.
The planned Belgaum Dharwad New Line is part of a comprehensive effort to enhance regional transportation networks, and it will contribute significantly to the overall development of the area. The construction of the double-tracking of the Miraj Londa railway line, in conjunction with the ring road and flyover, is progressing at a rapid pace, indicating the government’s dedication to infrastructure expansion.

However, with the elections now concluded, the implementation of various schemes, including the Belgaum Dharwad New Line, has recommenced.
