Belagavi Railway Station: Unfulfilled Promises and Missed Opportunities of New Trains
Belagavi, a city brimming with historical significance, welcomed a new chapter in its transportation infrastructure as the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, virtually inaugurated the newly renovated Belagavi Railway Station building in March 2023. With its stunning architectural design and contemporary facilities, the station stood as a proud symbol of modern heritage. However, beneath this remarkable facade, several pressing issues persist, causing inconvenience to passengers and casting a shadow on the station’s potential.

Belagavi Railway Station’s Platform 4’s Lack of Amenities: Passengers Suffering Inconvenience in Harsh Weather
As trains bound for the south terminate at Platform 4, it is crucial to provide adequate shelter for passengers during harsh weather conditions. Unfortunately, the absence of tinplate shelters on this platform has become a significant source of discomfort. When Platforms 1, 2, and 3 are occupied, trains are redirected to Platform 4, further exacerbating the inconvenience caused by the lack of necessary amenities. Passengers endure the scorching heat of summer and drenching rains without any respite, making their travel experience far from pleasant.

Idle Escalator: The Public Demands Immediate Installation for Platform 4
An escalator, generously donated by the Gogte Foundation, was meant to connect the Foot Over Bridge to Platform 4, easing the movement of passengers. Regrettably, this escalator lies idle in nearby sheds, failing to serve its intended purpose. The public demands the railway authorities take immediate action and install the escalator, providing much-needed convenience to passengers navigating between the footbridge and Platform 4. It is high time we utilize the generous gift bestowed upon us and ensure the comfort of those using the station.
Closed AC Waiting Hall at Platform 1 of Belagavi Railway Station: A Missed Opportunity for Comfort

In a bid to offer a luxurious waiting experience, the newly renovated Belagavi Railway Station features an AC waiting hall. However, since its inauguration, the AC waiting hall at Platform 1 remains closed, leaving travelers deprived of the promised comfort. It is disheartening to witness the failure to open this facility, denying passengers a respite from the sweltering heat or the need to seek shelter during inclement weather. The authorities must address this oversight promptly and unlock the potential of the AC waiting hall, enhancing the travel experience for all.
A New Rail Coach Restaurant: Enhancing Culinary Delights at Belagavi Railway Station
Amidst the array of concerns plaguing the newly renovated Belagavi Railway Station, there is one beacon of hope on the horizon. A new rail coach restaurant is set to grace the Post Office end of the Railway Entrance, promising to elevate the culinary experience for travelers and visitors alike. This innovative concept of transforming a railway coach into a restaurant holds the potential to become a unique attraction at the station. As construction progresses, the anticipation grows, with the community eagerly awaiting the grand opening of this culinary delight. With a diverse menu and a cozy ambiance, the rail coach restaurant aims to provide a refreshing dining experience, where passengers can indulge in delicious meals while waiting for their trains. It is a shining example of utilizing the available space creatively and offering something truly special to the people of Belagavi.

Stagnation of New Trains from Belagavi Railway Station: Belagavi’s Potential Remains Untapped
With the establishment of the Belagavi Coaching Depot, Carriage & Wagon Office, and Pitline, the city’s railway infrastructure took a significant leap forward. However, it is disheartening to note that since their commissioning, no new trains have originated from Belagavi, except for the Belagavi-Secunderabad Express. This stagnation raises concerns among residents and travelers alike, as the potential for improved connectivity and enhanced transportation opportunities remains untapped. We urge the railway authorities to prioritize the introduction of new train services, fulfilling the aspirations of the people and unlocking the true potential of Belagavi.

The Coaching Depot at Belagavi was established with the noble intention of relieving the mounting pressure faced by the existing C&W Offices and Coaching Depot at Hubli Junction and Vasco Da Gama. However, despite its creation, the depot is currently experiencing underutilization, failing to serve its intended purpose. This unfortunate situation not only undermines the investment made in its construction but also hampers the overall efficiency of the railway system in the region. It is crucial for the authorities to take immediate action to maximize the potential of the Belagavi Coaching Depot by allocating adequate staff, resources, and responsibilities. By doing so, they can ensure that the depot operates at its full capacity, effectively relieving the burden on other facilities and enabling seamless operations throughout the railway network.
Insufficient Staffing Hinders Maintenance Efforts, Leading to Cancellation of Belagavi-Dharwar-Mysuru Link Express
One major factor contributing to the stagnation of new train services is the inadequate staffing at the Coaching Depot Office. While the presence of a Coaching Depot Officer and C&W signifies intent, the lack of staff for periodic overhaul, primary maintenance, and major repairs poses a significant challenge in maintaining the rakes effectively. As a result, the Belagavi-Dharwar-Mysuru Link Express, plagued with maintenance issues and frequent rescheduling, has been labeled a poor-performing train and is set to be canceled from July 15, 2023. This decision has caused inconvenience to the passengers, especially those in Belagavi, who have endured delayed arrivals late in the morning at Mysuru.
It is imperative for the railway authorities to address these pressing issues promptly and proactively. Belagavi’s newly renovated railway station, with its rich heritage and modern amenities, deserves to serve as a shining example of efficient and passenger-friendly transportation. Let us come together as a community to raise our voices, demanding the attention and action required to rectify these injustices. Only then can we truly unlock the full potential of Belagavi’s railway infrastructure and ensure a seamless travel experience for all who pass through its gates.
