Introduction
One of the main objectives of the Sambra Railway Station project is to double the railway track and electrify the Belagavi Miraj Railway Section. This will not only improve the efficiency of the railway system but also reduce transportation costs and increase economic growth in the region.

Sambra Station Yard Updates
As part of the project, the Sambra SXB Railway Station is being expanded and upgraded to accommodate the increased traffic. The station now has three platforms, including two mainline platforms and a large yard for trucks and lorries to unload and load goods into freight trains. The goods shed from the Belagavi Railway Station have been shifted to Sambra to accommodate the new platforms, and a coaching depot cum workshop is being established at Belagavi.
The Sambra Railway Station yard is also being renovated, with track sleepers being replaced and platforms being heightened for easier access to the coaches. Currently, ICF coaches are parked at Platform-03 of Sambra Railway Station for periodic overhaul (POH) at Belagavi Workshop (CDO/Coach Care Center), and some pre-2000s coaches are being scrapped.

Re-Establishment of ICD at Sambra
One of the most significant aspects of the project is the plan to re-establish an Inter Container Depot (ICD) for containers at Sambra Railway Station Yard. This will provide a cost-effective and efficient way to transport goods between the port and the hinterland.
Electrification cum Doubling Updates
While there are currently no signs of electrification, the track doubling and interlocking have been completed. Poles and gantries have arrived at the station for electrification purposes, indicating that work will commence soon. The entire project is expected to be completed by December 2024.
New Goods Shed Road to Sambra
In addition to the renovations and upgrades mentioned earlier, a new white-topped (concreted) approach road has been constructed from the Gokak-Belagavi road to the station building. This road will provide easy access to the station for passengers and goods transporters, making the transportation of goods and people more convenient and efficient.

The construction of the new road also includes a goods shed road, which will enable trucks and lorries to access the goods shed and the yard more easily. This will reduce transportation costs and improve the transportation efficiency of goods between the port and the hinterland.
The construction of the new approach road and goods shed road is an essential component of the redevelopment project at Sambra Railway Station. It will not only provide better access to the station but also enhance the overall transportation infrastructure in the region, contributing to economic growth and development.
The PM Gati Shakti Model is a significant initiative that aims to revolutionize India’s logistics and infrastructure network. It is a comprehensive plan that includes developing efficient transport and logistics systems, such as railways, ports, and airports, to increase the country’s competitiveness.
One of the key components of the PM Gati Shakti Model is the development of the railway system, which is crucial for the movement of goods and people across the country. The project at Sambra Railway Station is just one of the many railway development projects that are underway across the country.
The redevelopment and renovation of Sambra Railway Station is a significant project that will have far-reaching benefits for the region. With the doubling of the railway track and electrification of the Belagavi Miraj Railway Section, the railway system will become more efficient and cost-effective, and the establishment of an ICD at Sambra will provide a cost-effective and efficient way to transport goods between the port and the hinterland. The project is part of the larger PM Gati Shakti Model, which aims to revolutionize India’s logistics and infrastructure network, and will contribute significantly to the country’s economic growth and development.
