Rajiv Doddanavar VC of Bharatesh Education Trust Passes away
Belagavi, Karnataka, India – Rajiv Surendra Doddanavar, the Vice Chairman of Bharatesh Education Trust, passed away on March 2, 2023, at 68. The news of his sudden demise has left the people of Belagavi in shock and sorrow. Doddanavar was a well-respected figure in the community and had made significant contributions to various fields.
Rajiv Doddanavar was born in Belagavi to veteran Congress leader Late Shri Komalanna Doddanavar. He completed his schooling at St. Paul’s and pursued engineering at SIT-Tumkur. During his college days, he was an avid cricketer and represented his university. After completing his education, Doddanavar joined his family’s business, Nandi Chemicals, which supplied aromatic compounds to Cycle Brand Agarbatthis and S. H. Kelkar & Co.

Doddanavar’s passion for education led him to join the Bharatesh Education Trust over three decades ago. He brought several innovative projects, reforms, and developmental activities to the Trust. His dedication to the Trust saw the construction of a beautiful Jain Basadi at Kasmalagi near Khanapur, which now has one of the most beautiful 11th-century idols of Bhagwan Parshwanath. The renovation of the Jain Basadi at Shetty Galli is also a work of his efforts, whereby he brought to closure a longstanding issue. He also led the Mahaveer Jayanti celebrations at Belagavi for several years.
Rajiv Doddanavar’s contribution to society did not go unnoticed. He was awarded the ‘Samaj Bhushan’ by Poojya Jinasen Bhattarak Swamiji of Jain Matha Nandani and also by Poojya Jagadguru Swastishri Charukirti Bhattarak Swamiji of Jain Matha Shravanabelagola for his contribution to society at large.
Apart from his dedication to education, Doddanavar was an avid reader and had deep knowledge and a keen understanding of several topics, including politics, technology, education, religion, history, heritage, and sports. He was a great orator and enthralled audiences with his anecdotes.
Rajiv Doddanavar was also involved in various social and cultural organizations. He was the National Vice President of Bharatiya Jain Sanghtana, President of the Federation of Jain Educational Institutions, and also of Kamal Basadi Puja Committee, Belagavi. He had a large circle of friends and got along well with people of all ages, connecting with them on diverse subjects.
Rajiv Doddanavar’s mortal remains will be kept for public tributes at Bharatesh Education Trust on March 3 from 8.30 to 10.30 am and after that at his home in Hindwadi till 12.00 pm. The cremation will be held at Shahapur crematorium at 1 pm on the same day.
The news of Rajeev Doddanavar’s passing has been met with an outpouring of grief and condolences from the people of Belagavi. Several people took to social media to express their condolences and pay tribute to his life and legacy. His contributions to education and society will always be remembered and cherished. The void left by his passing will be difficult to fill, but his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
