Railway Minister Assures Pune Belagavi Vande Bharat Express Operations Following Core Development Delegation’s Meeting
In a recent development, Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw has responded to the concerns raised by Shri Irrana Kadadi, Rajya Sabha MP, regarding the commencement of the Pune Belagavi Vande Bharat Express service. This assurance follows a delegation’s visit by members of the Belagavi Core Development Group, including MP Shri Iranna Kadadi, Shri Ashwin Patil, Shri Shailesh Yallamalli, and Shri Sandeep Patil, who met with the Rail Minister to discuss the operational challenges.
In a letter dated 13th December 2023, Shri Kadadi highlighted the necessity of initiating operations on this route. The primary obstacle hindering the launch of the Pune Belagavi Vande Bharat Express lies in the infrastructure constraints along the route. The current configuration necessitates the trainset to switch tracks multiple times between the Up and Down directions due to the presence of Overhead Equipment (OHE) wires on specific sections. This operational constraint would inevitably lead to delays and impact the overall efficiency of the service.
Addressing these concerns, Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw outlined the prerequisite for the commencement of operations. He emphasized that the Pune Belagavi Vande Bharat Express service would be initiated only after the Full Electrified Double Line (FEDL) declaration of the Pune-Miraj-Belagavi section. This declaration is slated to occur in March 2024, coinciding with the completion of the Belagavi-Miraj-Pune doubling project.
The significance of the FEDL declaration cannot be overstated, as it will enable seamless operations for the Vande Bharat Express by providing continuous electrified double lines along the entire route. This crucial infrastructure upgrade will eliminate the need for frequent track changes, ensuring a smoother and more efficient journey for passengers traveling between Pune and Belagavi.
It’s noteworthy that while the Miraj to Pune line is already electrified, it currently operates as a single line, further complicating the operational dynamics for the Vande Bharat Express.
The forthcoming completion of the Belagavi-Miraj-Pune doubling project and the subsequent FEDL declaration mark significant milestones in enhancing the connectivity and efficiency of rail services in the region. Once operational, the Pune Belagavi Vande Bharat Express is poised to offer passengers a comfortable, time-saving, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
The assurance provided by Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw underscores the government’s commitment to advancing rail infrastructure and improving connectivity across the country. As the nation looks forward to the inauguration of this vital rail link, stakeholders anticipate a positive impact on both regional development and passenger experience.
