Embracing Sustainable Transport: Belagavi-Mysuru Vishwamanav Express Goes Electric with KJM WAP7
In a significant stride towards modernization, the Belagavi-Mysuru Vishwamanav Express has embraced electric traction, bidding farewell to its era of reliance on diesel locomotives. Commencing from February 27, 2024, the train’s transition to AC (Alternating Current) E-locomotive KJM WAP7 heralds a new chapter in its service history.
Krishnarajpuram Diesel Loco Shed’s WAP-7 (KJM WAP7) locomotive proudly led the inaugural run, symbolizing the end of an era for EMD Diesel Locomotives. The milestone marks the third regular train from Belagavi to adopt electric traction locomotives, signifying a broader shift towards cleaner and more efficient modes of transportation.
The historic transition was accompanied by a ceremony, with Railways Incharge Shri Shridhar Hullikavi of Belagavi Core Development group adorning the lead locomotive with decorations. However, the journey towards electrification was not without its challenges.
Today’s journey saw an additional dimension with the inclusion of an Inspection Car bound for Electric Traction Inspection between Suldhal and Ghataprabha. This necessitated a lengthy Loco Reversal of KJM WAP7 process, extending approximately 2 hours, as the Inspection car had to be detached and reattached to the Sambra end of the Platform.
Despite the logistical hurdles, the determination to embrace electric traction prevailed. Following the meticulous completion of shunting duties by the E-locomotive KJM WAP7, the locomotive underwent a thorough washing and decoration process. Shridhar Hullikavi, after overseeing these arrangements, concluded his duties around 2:30 am, only to return promptly at 5:15 am for the inaugural run pooja.
The transition of the Belagavi-Mysuru Vishwamanav Express to electric traction not only underscores the Indian Railways’ commitment to sustainable practices but also promises enhanced efficiency and reduced environmental impact. As the train embarks on its electrified journey, it signifies a momentous step towards a greener and more progressive future for rail transportation in the region.
