Suldhal-Ghataprabha Double Line Section Electrified (SDL GPB FEDL): Boosting Efficiency in Belagavi District
In a significant development for the South Western Railway’s Belagavi District, the Suldhal-Ghataprabha Double Line Section (SDL GPB FEDL) has achieved electrification, marking a major milestone in the modernization and enhancement of railway infrastructure in the region.
The electrification project, part of the larger Miraj Belagavi Londa Double Line Section, has now been energized with 250,000 Volts, 50Hz A.C. power supply, effective from February 24, 2024. This substantial voltage upgrade will enhance operational efficiency and facilitate smoother transportation services along the route.
Following the commissioning of the Electric Traction CRS, which took place recently, the competent authority and Principal Chief Electrical Engineer of the South Western Railway have given their approval, thereby officially commissioning the line from Belagavi to Kudachi as a Fully Electrified Double Line (FEDL). This designation underscores the completion of a vital segment within the broader electrification project SDL GPB FEDL.
With the successful trail run of an AC E locomotive conducted on the Down Mainline from Ghataprabha to Suldhal at 12:10 Noon on the SDL GPB FEDL, the electrification progress has been substantiated through rigorous inspection by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.
The energization of the overhead traction wires signifies a significant transition for the Suldhal-Ghataprabha section (SDL GPB FEDL), as it becomes live at all times, thereby necessitating caution and adherence to safety protocols. This electrification not only modernizes the railway infrastructure but also underscores the commitment towards enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency.
It is noteworthy that with this electrification, the stretch from Belagavi to Kudachi has been fully electrified, constituting a crucial segment of the Miraj Belagavi Londa Line. The only remaining non-electrified portion lies between Kudachi and Miraj. Once electrification is completed on this segment, the entire Pune-Miraj-Belagavi-Londa stretch will be electrified, further facilitating seamless connectivity and efficient transportation services.
The electrification of the Suldhal-Ghataprabha Double Line Section (SDL GPB FEDL) is a testament to the ongoing efforts to modernize and upgrade railway infrastructure, ultimately contributing to the advancement of regional connectivity and transportation capabilities.
