IXG ILS Ensures Safe and Precise Landings, Ending Weather-Related Diversions to nearby airports
On a momentous occasion, Belagavi Airport achieved a significant milestone as it officially commissioned its Instrument Landing System (IXG ILS) today. The ILS was officially commissioned by Sh. Venkateshwar L GM(CNS) SR, APD Sh. S.Thiyagarajan, CNS UIC Sh P.S. Desai, and all stakeholders of the airport.

The ceremony, graced by aviation dignitaries and stakeholders, marked a turning point in the airport’s operations, promising safer and more reliable landings for aircraft, especially during adverse weather conditions.
On the auspicious date of October 5th, Belagavi Airport bore witness to not one but two momentous events that will shape the future of aviation in the region. The first historic event was the relaunch of the Delhi-Belagavi Flight, rekindling the vital air link between the national capital and this thriving city in Karnataka. The resumption of this route opens up new possibilities for travelers and businesses alike, fostering economic growth and connectivity.
Alongside this revival, the airport marked another pivotal achievement with the commissioning of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) Approach on Runway 26 (ILS IXG). This technological marvel promises to revolutionize air travel by ensuring safe and precise landings, even in the face of challenging weather conditions. These dual milestones underscore Belagavi Airport’s commitment to excellence and its pivotal role in enhancing aviation infrastructure and safety standards for the benefit of all passengers and stakeholders.
An Instrument Landing System (IXG ILS) is a precision radio navigation system that offers short-range guidance to aircraft, allowing them to approach a runway with utmost precision, even in low visibility conditions. The introduction of IXG ILS at Belagavi Airport promises to enhance aviation safety and efficiency significantly.
The historic Indigo Flight No 7285, originating from Bengaluru and bound for Belagavi, became the first flight to utilize the newly commissioned ILS Instrument Approach Landing at Runway 26. This landmark event showcased the capabilities of the system and highlighted its pivotal role in ensuring safe arrivals at the airport.

The ILS landing of Flight No 7285 was expertly handled by Air Traffic Controller Miss Richa Goswami, demonstrating the proficiency of the airport’s personnel. The flight was captained by Captain Sandeep DCunha, with First Officer Kiran Kamley ensuring a smooth and secure landing.
The introduction of the IXG ILS system at Belagavi Airport brings a multitude of benefits to the region and the aviation industry as a whole. One of the most significant advantages is the assurance of safe and precise landings, even in challenging weather conditions. This capability reduces the risk associated with adverse weather and enhances overall flight safety.
Prior to the installation of the ILS system, Belagavi Airport faced the challenge of weather-related diversions. Harsh weather conditions often forced flights to be redirected to nearby airports such as Kolhapur or Hubli. Such diversions caused inconveniences for passengers and added operational complexity for airlines. With the ILS now in place, these diversions are set to become a thing of the past, ensuring that Belagavi Airport remains a reliable and accessible destination year-round.
The commissioning of the IXG ILS at Belagavi Airport reflects a commitment to advancing aviation infrastructure and enhancing safety standards. It not only boosts the region’s connectivity but also solidifies Belagavi Airport’s status as a pivotal gateway for travelers, making it a vital asset for both passengers and the aviation industry.
