Belagavi-Londa Railway Line Updates as of 26.01.2023
The Belagavi-Londa railway line is a crucial stretch of railway that connects the city of Belagavi in the state of Karnataka to the town of Londa in the same state. The railway line is an important link between the two regions and is One of the two major Stations in the Londa-Belagavi-Miraj section of the Pune-Bengaluru Railway Line.

To meet the growing demand for rail transport in the region, the Indian Railways has undertaken a major upgrading of the Belagavi-Londa railway line, including the doubling and electrification of the entire line.
The railway line was a single line till now, which meant that the trains had to wait at crossing stations for a clear path. Now the Line is being doubled and is also being electrified, which means that it will be powered by electricity instead of diesel.
The doubling and electrification works on the Belagavi-Londa railway line are currently being carried out on a war footing. The section from Gunji to Belagavi has been completely doubled, and 80% of the remaining work on the Gunji to Londa section has been completed.
The final hurdle in this section is the demolition of an old British-era railway overbridge.

The electrification of the railway line is another important aspect of the upgrading project. Electrification will allow trains to run on electric power, reducing dependence on fossil fuels/Diesel and reducing emissions. The work involves the installation of overhead catenary systems (OHE) and the erection of poles and gantries.
The Gunji to Desur OHE wiring has already been completed, and the remaining work is progressing at a fast pace.
In addition, poles and gantries have been erected on both lines for electrification.

Belagavi-Londa Electrification: Khanapur Substation
The Khanapur Traction Substation, along with its transmission line, was successfully charged with both transformers today. This marks a significant step towards an eco-friendly mode of transportation as part of the Belagavi-Londa Electrification Project. The project aims to reduce dependence on Diesel and promote sustainable transportation options. The successful charging of the substation and transmission line is a positive indication that the project is moving in the right direction and will ultimately contribute to a cleaner and greener future.
We can expect a CRS (Commissioner of Railway Safety) inspection soon in next month (February 2023) on the newly laid double line on the Gunji-Londa section of the Belagavi-Londa railway line. After the inspection, the CRS will also inspect the electrification of the UP-DOWN lines simultaneously. This is an important development for the region as it will improve connectivity and increase the efficiency of the railway system.
The upgrading of the Belagavi-Londa railway line is also expected to have a positive impact on the region’s tourism industry. The faster and more efficient rail transport service will make it easier for tourists to visit the region, which is known for its beautiful beaches (Goa), historic temples, and other tourist attractions. This will boost the local economy and create jobs in the tourism sector.
Additional: Speed Trial on New Second Dhupadal Wier Bridge at Ghataprabha
The visuals of the speed trial on the newly doubled track of Bridge No. 125 between Gokak and Ghataprabha stations were truly impressive. As part of the Londa – Miraj Doubling Project, the Bridge’s track has been doubled to accommodate increased traffic and to allow for faster trains to pass through. The speed trial was conducted to test the capabilities of the new track and to ensure that it was safe for use. The results were astounding, with a maximum speed of 120 kph being achieved.
This was a significant improvement from the previous speed limit and demonstrated the success of the doubling project. The smooth and efficient movement of the train on the track was a clear indication of the high-quality work that had gone into the project. The visuals of the speed trial were a testament to the dedication and hard work of all those involved in the project.
