
Belagavi District gets highest ever Railway Package in Budget 2023 of Amrit Kaal
Budget 2023–24 allocates the highest amount of money to SWR ever with a focus on new lines and customer amenities.
The emphasis is on Connecting the Unconnected, and to that end, the budget for New Lines has increased by 336% from the previous year. SWR received its greatest capital spend ever last year. This year’s budget is the highest. The entire expenditure for SWR has increased by 33.3% to Rs. 9200 crores from Rs. 6900 crores.

Belagavi District gets Rs. 602/- Crores*
Belagavi News is elated to announce the allocation of a massive ₹602 crores for railway projects in the Belagavi district. This amount is a 33% increment of the ₹9200 crores allocated for the entire South Western Railway Zone. The allocation of ₹200 crores for doubling the Londa-Belagavi-Miraj railway line, ₹182 crores for electrification of the same section, ₹210 by the Union Government for Bagalkot-Kudachi New Railway Line, and ₹10 crores for the Belagavi-Dharwad new railway line via Kittur, will go a long way in improving the railway infrastructure in the Belagavi District.
Note: *₹150 Crores by the Government of Karnataka for Bagalkot-Kudachi is not included.
The citizens would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, and Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman for their vision and support in making this allocation a reality. The electrification and doubling of the Belagavi-Londa section are expected to be completed by March 2023, and this will bring about a sea of change in the lives of the people of Belagavi.
The expenditure on customer facilities has increased by 130% from Rs. 137.94 crores last year to Rs. 316.9 crores this year with the goal of improving passenger comfort. The Ministry of Railways has received the highest capital allocation of Rs. 2.4 lakh crores in Budget 2023–24. Infrastructure development, railway and station modernization, improved connection, passenger safety, and comfort are all given top priority.
The average annual budget outlay on railroads has been steadily rising in Karnataka. The average annual expenditure between 2009 and 2014 was Rs. 835 crores. The same was Rs. 3424 crores from 2014 to 2022. The expense for SWR in the current budget is Rs. 7850 billion (excluding funding for the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project). For SWR, a total of Rs. 9200 crores would be spent. The allotment for the state of Karnataka is worth Rs. 7,561 billion.
An allocation of Rs. 2423 crores for New Line and Rs. 1529 crores for Doubling has been made, continuing the focus on improving infrastructure to offer connectivity. Additionally, a sanction of Rs. 60,000 crores with an outlay of Rs. 1 crore in the current budget has been made in order to connect the previously unconnected towns/cities with a population of 50,000 or above. This will aid in the swift execution of projects for feasible additional lines, which will improve connectivity and encourage trade and commerce in smaller towns.
It has been the vision of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi to offer world-class amenities to every common railway passenger. in line with it, all major stations are being redeveloped. The redevelopment work has commenced at Bengaluru Cantonment and Yesvantpur stations already. Under Amrit Bharat’s Scheme, 52 no. of stations in SWR will be taken up for redevelopment. Amrit Bharat scheme is a policy for major upgradation of stations with an objective to improve the ease of movement of passengers and integration of stations with surrounding areas. The architectural planning would be given due importance to improve the overall look of the stations.
Emphasis would be on the upgradation of the station buildings as iconic structures with modern state-of-the-art facilities and futuristic design, with entry from both sides, ease of access to passengers, roof plaza, etc. The upgraded stations will focus on sustainability and stations would emerge as ‘city – centers’ with amenities for leisure, infotainment, business, retail outlets, etc. Pan-India Rs 30,000 crores have been set aside for this purpose.

242 crores of rupees have been set up for road-over-bridge and road-under-bridge safety projects. The ROB policy has undergone revision. All upcoming projects will be fully supported, either by the railroad or the state government depending on priority, to improve the quicker execution of the work. The budget allotted for the construction of traffic facilities is 100 crores. The survey of 44 New Line Projects will cost a total of Rs. 10 crores.
General Manager Shri Sanjeev Kishore has stated that there has been an unprecedented infusion of capital. In the era of Amrit Kaal, this will go a long way in improving railway infrastructure, thereby enhancing connectivity in SWR.
