Budget Session 2023: Budget bumper for Indian Railways: New movement in the South Western Railway sector too.

Introduction
The Union Budget Session 2023 presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made a huge contribution to Indian Railways. In this regard, this is a complementary budget for the South Western Railway sector and it is a budget that makes arrangements for development in an appropriate manner. The South Western Railway sector has also been welcomed in this regard.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that Rs 2.40 lakh crore capital has been provided to Railways, which is nine times more than the expenditure incurred in the financial year 2013-14. In this background, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav interacted with the major zonal managers of Indian Railways and gave information. In this regard, under the leadership of South Western Railway General Manager Sanjiv Kishore, a virtual meeting was held and information was given.

Projects, Doubling, and Punctuality Update by GM SWR
In a meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav during the Budget Session 2023, the General Manager of South Western Railways, Sanjeev Kishore, presented a report on the current state of the railway zone. He highlighted the progress of major projects and the doubling of railway tracks between South Hubli to Saunshi, Gunji to Londa, Suldhal to Ghatprabha, and Kudachi to Vijayanagar of Londa Belagavi Miraj Section. The GM stated that these projects are expected to be completed by March 2023.
However, he also warned that due to the construction work, there may be some disruptions to the train services, which may result in the cancellation or slowing down of trains and may affect the punctuality of the South Western Railways. Currently, the punctuality of the South Western Railways is the 3rd highest in the country with a 94%+ punctuation rate, but the GM assured that this will improve again in mid-March once the construction work is completed.

After the conversation, the SWR General manager, who gave a response to the media, said that it will witness the electrification, doubling, construction, and redevelopment of the South Western Railway sector.
Major Reformation in Indian Railways
More than 100 critical transport projects have been identified to interconnect the coal, fertilizer, and food grain sectors. About 75,000 crores will be invested in this project. Out of this, 15,000 crores will be procured from private sources on a priority basis, he said.
More than 1,000 coaches of premier trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Humsafar, and Tejas will be upgraded keeping in mind the railway passengers. These coaches are built for the convenience of passengers.
Railways have planned to start Vande Bharat Express in many places to increase the speed of trains. In addition to this, necessary steps will be taken to replace the old rails.
Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the Railways is planning to manufacture 100 more Vistadome coaches with the aim of attracting tourists. In the next budget, the government has proposed to manufacture 35 hydrogen fuel-based trains, 4,500 newly designed automobile carrier coaches, 5000 LHB coaches, and 58000 wagons. In the Union Budget 2023, Rs 1.4 lakh crore has been earmarked for railways, of which Rs 1.37 lakh crore has been earmarked for capital expenditure and Rs 3,267 lakh crore for revenue expenditure.
2.40 Lakh Crore to the Railway Department in total. 10 Lakh Crore has been earmarked and capital investment will be made. This is the largest investment in the history of India. He said that the loan facility to the state governments will be continued for another year.
75 thousand crores have been announced for the new railway project. He also said that 400 new Vande Bharat trains will be introduced.
