Belagavi Airport Infrastructure Updates
Belagavi Airport Updates as of the 1st week of December 2022:
Work is progressing at the Belagavi Airport.
The airport is currently undergoing renovation work, with one terminal operational and one in progress. A hangar and an apron for MROs are also in the works. The Red Bird Aviation FTO is completed, and two other projects are in progress – the Cooling Pit for Cooling the Bombs, if any, found at Airport. ILS is to be shortly commissioned and work on the Hangar & Apron for MROs, etc may start in December 2022 end and in January 2023 Begining.
What is Cooling Pit?
A concrete dug-out in a remote corner acts as the airport’s blast valve. Any object suspected to contain explosives is kept in the pit.

What is ILS?
ILS, which stands for Instrument Landing System, is an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard precision landing aid that is used to give precise azimuth and descent guidance signals to aircraft for guidance when making a runway landing in either good or bad weather. When flying in IFR conditions, an instrument landing system (ILS) facility is a very accurate and reliable technique to find the runway.
The lateral and vertical guidance required to fly a precise approach is provided by the ILS. The pilot can make a precise approach if all ILS system components, including the approved approach technique, are accessible.
Status: To Be commissioned by December 2022.
What is FTO ( Flight Training Organisation)?
A course of study needed to learn how to fly an airplane is called flight training. The development and practice of fundamental airmanship abilities is the overarching goal of primary and intermediate flight instruction.
As long as all experience criteria for the desired pilot certificate/license are satisfied, flight training can be undertaken under a structured certified curriculum with a flight instructor at a flight school or as individual lessons with no syllabus with a flight instructor.
Status: Red Bird Aviation Hangar Completed, Samvardhane Hangar Works Remains.
