The Hyderabad-based budget airline TruJet, which halted operations in 2022 due to financial difficulties, has seen an 85 percent stake purchase from US-based NS Aviation.
Isha Ali, vice chairman of NS Aviation, stated on June 19 that the transaction would be finished shortly and that the entire valuation of the purchase was close to Rs 450 crore.
According to the airline, operations are anticipated to begin as early as October, with reasonable pricing, enticing offers, and free meals to draw customers.
Trujet, the popular regional airline, is considering a strategic move to resume its operations from Belagavi Airport, subject to the approval of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The airline’s founder and managing director, Umesh Vankayalapati, recently revealed their intention to lease or purchase three previously operated ATR aircraft, which are currently stationed at Hyderabad Airport. This exciting development could reignite connectivity between Belagavi and a range of destinations, including Tirupati, Ballari, Nanded, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and others.
The airline, which temporarily suspended its services from Belagavi due to financial constraints, aims to revive its suspended routes under the UDAN scheme. The four routes previously operated by the airline were Belagavi to Tirupati, Mysore, Hyderabad, and Kadapa. These connections played a vital role in facilitating travel and boosting economic activity in the region. However, the discontinuation of these flights left a void in the air connectivity of Belagavi.

With Trujet’s plan to reestablish its services, the local community eagerly anticipates the potential return of these vital flight routes by the end of the year. While the date of resumption remains unconfirmed, S Thyagrajan, the Airport Director of Belagavi Airport, emphasized that the revival of flights is contingent upon DGCA approval. Furthermore, the airline has yet to provide any specific dates regarding this matter.
Trujet has always been recognized for its commitment to enhancing regional connectivity, particularly through the UDAN scheme. The resumption of its operations from Belagavi would undoubtedly be a significant milestone, catering to the travel needs of both business and leisure travelers in the area. The airline’s decision to acquire or lease its previously operated ATR aircraft demonstrates its dedication to providing reliable and comfortable air travel options.
Belagavi Airport, as a vital aviation hub in the region, is well-positioned to support Trujet’s plans. The airport authorities eagerly await the airline’s confirmation and the subsequent approval from the DGCA to resume flights. The collaboration between Trujet and Belagavi Airport holds the promise of renewed economic growth, increased tourism, and improved connectivity, benefitting the local community and beyond.
As the wait for the resumption of Trujet’s services continues, travelers and aviation enthusiasts in Belagavi remain hopeful for the restoration of these crucial flight routes. The return of Trujet’s flights to Belagavi would not only reconnect the city to various destinations but also reaffirm the airline’s commitment to regional air travel, serving as a catalyst for progress and development.
