In a significant stride towards enhancing higher education standards, Rani Chennamma University (RCU) in Belagavi has been awarded a grant of Rs 100 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) scheme. This flagship initiative of the central government aims to revamp government-run and aided higher education institutions across the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the project via video conference today, marking a pivotal moment for RCU and its academic community. The funding, provided under the Multidisciplinary Education and Research Universities component of the PM-USHA scheme, is poised to propel RCU towards excellence in teaching, research, and infrastructure development.
Expressing gratitude towards the central government for their support, Rani Chennamma University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Prof. M. Ramachandra Gowda stated, “This generous grant underscores the government’s commitment to promoting equity, access, and inclusion in higher education. With this infusion of funds, RCU is poised to embark on a transformative journey towards becoming a center of academic excellence.”
The PM-USHA program, successor to the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), seeks to foster quality education by improving teaching standards and advocating for the accreditation of colleges and universities nationwide. Under this scheme, 78 universities, including RCU, have been selected for financial assistance.
It is noteworthy that the funding allocation comprises Rs 100 crore for Multidisciplinary Education and Research Universities and an additional Rs 20 crore for strengthening universities. The contributions from the central government and states reflect a collaborative effort to bolster the higher education landscape.
Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Irannna Kadadi, played a pivotal role in advocating for RCU’s inclusion in the PM-USHA scheme. His unwavering support and commitment to educational development have been instrumental in securing this substantial grant for the university. Acknowledging his efforts, Dr. Gowda remarked, “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to MP Iranna Kadadi for his tireless advocacy on behalf of RCU. His dedication to advancing education in our region has been invaluable.”
As RCU prepares to embark on its journey of growth and innovation, the university community looks forward to leveraging the PM-USHA grant to foster academic excellence, research innovation, and holistic development.
