Karnataka Budget 2023 NWKRTC & other two corporations get financial aid.
In a welcome move for the cash-strapped North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), the Karnataka government has announced an aid of ₹200 crores in the Karnataka Budget 2023. The aid is aimed at helping the 3 state road corporations, which include the NWKRTC, KSRTC, and Kalyan Karnataka RTC. While KSRTC is running well and receiving government support with the purchase of new electric and Volvo buses, the NWKRTC and Kalyan Karnataka RTC have been neglected, with the NWKRTC, in particular, facing a severe financial crunch. KKRTC has been allotted ₹236.59 crores whereas the KSRTC ₹190 crores.
The NWKRTC, which operates in the northern part of Karnataka, has been facing a financial crisis for some time now, with the last time it received new Volvos and Sarige Express buses being in the year 2019. The situation has become so dire that the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has sold its second-hand buses to the NWKRTC to help it replace its aging fleet of city transport buses, which is named Nagar Sarige. The NWKRTC has been struggling to operate its services, with a shortage of funds and a lack of crew and buses cited as the primary reasons.

However, the aid provided by the Karnataka government through Karnataka Budget 2023 is expected to provide some relief to the NWKRTC. The funds through Karnataka Budget 2023 will enable the corporation to purchase new buses and expand its services. The NWKRTC has been struggling to meet the demands of citizens who have been seeking special services or new routes. With the new funds, the corporation can now consider providing these services and routes. The aid is also expected to help the corporation overcome the shortage of crew and buses that it has been facing.
The NWKRTC has been earning some money through its festival special trips, Jatra specials, and tourism packages. However, these have not been sufficient to address the corporation’s financial woes. The aid from the Karnataka government is, therefore, a much-needed relief for the NWKRTC, which has been struggling to operate its services and expand its operations.
The neglect of the NWKRTC and Kalyan Karnataka RTC has been a long-standing issue. While the KSRTC has been receiving government support and has been able to purchase new buses and expand its services, the NWKRTC and Kalyan Karnataka RTC have been left to fend for themselves. This has led to a disparity in the quality of services provided by the different corporations. However, with the aid from the Karnataka government, there is hope that the NWKRTC and Kalyan Karnataka RTC will be able to catch up with the KSRTC in terms of the quality of services provided.
The aid of ₹200 crores provided by the Karnataka government through the Karnataka Budget 2023 to the NWKRTC is a welcome move. It is expected to provide much-needed relief to the corporation, which has been facing a severe financial crunch. The funds will enable the NWKRTC to purchase new buses, expand its services, and overcome the shortage of crew and buses that it has been facing. It is hoped that this aid will mark the beginning of a new era for the NWKRTC, where it will be able to provide quality services on par with the other road corporations in the state.
