The second block is designed to serve academics and researchers through ICMR’s I-RISE program, offering facilities such as the Central Instrumentation Facilities, natural product chemistry laboratory, bioinformatics, animal cell culture, microbiology, and molecular biology laboratories. Notably, this block will house a viral diagnostic research laboratory, poised to play a pivotal role in swiftly identifying and addressing outbreaks of viral infections in the region.
ICMR NITM, one of the 27 institutes under the Indian Council of Medical Research, has evolved significantly since its inception. Starting as a Regional Medical Research Centre in 2006, operating from makeshift laboratories, it attained the status of NITM in 2017. The institute’s research mandate focuses on the evidence-driven integration of traditional and modern medicine to strengthen health systems.
The construction of the main laboratory building, undertaken by the Central Public Works Department, commenced in 2020 and has been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone in advancing medical research capabilities in the region.
The inauguration ceremony is anticipated to be a gathering of esteemed personalities from the health and research sectors, celebrating the commitment to advancing medical knowledge and fostering a synergistic approach to healthcare. The ICMR NITM’s new facility is poised to become a beacon of scientific innovation, paving the way for groundbreaking discoveries in the integration of traditional and modern medicine.
